THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Human Rights Commission has directed the director of the health department to investigate whether there has been any lapse at the official level in the complaint that the salary, increment and salary revision arrears during maternity leave have been withheld for two years.

Commission acting chairperson and judicial member K Baijunath stated in the order that the withheld benefits should be paid within one month. The order was issued on the complaint of VS Gayathri, the nursing officer of Peroorkada Mental Health Centre. On June 2, 2022, the director of the health department had assured the commission that the withheld benefits would be paid immediately. The Commission found that the health department has not yet complied with this assurance. The order further stated that the complainant's rights had been violated by the concerned officials.
