AGRA: In any normal scenario, no candidate would have the resoluteness to try their luck again after facing consecutive election defeats. Some candidates would even ponder about quitting politics after facing one single defeat. But then there is 79-year-old Hasnuram Ambedkari. He has unsuccessfully fought the elections 98 times from Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh.
Ambedkari started contesting elections in 1985. For Ambedkari, his every defeat is something to be celebrated since this gives him yet another opportunity to contest again. With age running out, Ambedkari is left with a sole target to contest election two more times and thus reach a century.
Sadly, the officials rejected his nomination paper in the upcoming elections. Ambedkari is an MGNREGA worker and only uses his hard-earned money for campaigning. Adding more vigour to Ambedkari is his family’s unflinching support. Albeit sure about his defeat, Ambedakari is not ready to call it a day.
“I am not seeking financial help from anyone. I know I won't win. But that doesn't hold me back from competing. My age is a concern but I am sure that I will hit a century soon” said Ambedkari.
