Kollam braces for KSEB's load shedding; IMD issues heat alert in 12 districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Recording three degrees higher temperature than the usual reading, several districts in Kerala are reeling under unbearable heat. As a precautionary measure, a yellow warning has been issued in 12 districts till the seventh of this month. Idukki and Wayanad were omiited from the list. According to the warning, the high temperature may cross up to 40 degrees Celsius in Palakkad district, which has recorded top temperatures in the last few days.

Meanwhile, IMD also predicted rain in the state; which will surely be a solace amidst the torpid heat. Rain with thunder and lightning is possible at isolated places in Kerala till May 7. KSEB's sector-wise power regulation will cover more areas. Last day, load shedding was introduced in the Palakkad and Malappuram districts. Apart from the Malabar region, load shedding will also be introduced in some areas of Alappuzha and Kollam districts.

Load shedding will be introduced anytime from 7 pm to 1 am. KSEB has appealed to the public for maximum cooperation. KSEB has also issued guidelines to reduce electricity consumption.

497 cows have died in the last three months due to an unbearable summer in Kerala. This is unprecedented. The highest number of cows died in Kollam district - 10. The lowest in Kannur - 3. Due to heat, daily milk production decreased by 6.5 lakh litres.
