Centre planning to extend service of Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan

governor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reports said the Centre is likely to allow Governor Arif Mohammad Khan to continue as the Governor of Kerala. This was reported by a leading media. The report said the Center decided to extend his service after assessing that the actions of the Governor have helped to prevent the politically biased actions of the state government and to expose them to the people. The Center also reckons that the governor's actions have helped the BJP to make significant progress in the state. The report said that this is also the reason to extend his service. Arif Mohammad Khan's five-year tenure will end on September 6. No governor has been given two terms in recent times.

He has initiated steps to strengthen the measures related to the universities after receiving a signal of approval from the Centre. Raj Bhavan fixed date for hearing on grievances related to universities and complaints on appointment of VCs. Such measures were suspended during election time.

Arif Mohammad Khan is the governor who literally made the Pinarayi government drink water. He came forward in strong language against the chief minister. He took the path of confrontation by holding back the bills passed by the legislature in relation to the university and sending the bills to the President, infuriating the government. People even attributed to him the interpretation of the right opposition in Kerala.

He had spoken harshly against the government to the chief secretary, who came as a representative of the state government to invite him to the inauguration of the Lok Kerala Sabha. He openly told the chief secretary that he could not participate and criticized the government for belittling all constitutional institutions. When his vehicle was attacked and damaged, the government took the stand that it was a democratic protest and accused many ministers of encouraging the attackers by shaking hands with them.
