THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On January 16, 2023, Navi Mumbai woke up hearing the shocking news of a 19-year-old woman who killed her newborn baby by throwing it down from the flat after giving birth in the flat's toilet. The woman committed the atrocity to hide the disgrace of getting impregnated by her relative. What happened in Panampilly Nagar in Kochi the other day was similar to this. It was a 23-year-old girl who killed her own baby by wrapping it in plastic wrap and throwing it down. We are coming across various incidents of women committing similar atrocities to live with their lovers and avoid disgrace. Financial problems and postpartum depression are other reasons that lead women to commit such cruelties.

  • In Kannur, a woman named Sharanya killed her one-and-a-half-year-old son by throwing him into the sea. She killed the child as she wanted to live with her husband's friend.
  • In Kasaragod, a mother killed her newborn baby by strangling it with earphones. She did it out of animosity towards her husband.
  • In Harippad, a woman named Deepthi threw her 48-day-old baby into the well after she was irked by the child's constant crying.
  • In Thenhipalam, a mother named Aneesa strangled her three-and-a-half-month-old baby.
  • In Badiyadukka, a mother threw her one-and-a-half-year-old boy into the well following a family dispute. She was arrested after a month and a half.
  • In Thrissur, a 23-year-old unmarried woman strangled her baby to death soon after giving birth.
