One more of main accused arrested in Karamana murder case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The main suspects in the incident of killing a youth identified as Akhil with a stone in the middle of the road in Karamana have been arrested. The two who led the murder were arrested today.

The two arrested are Akhil Appu and Vineeth Raj. Akhil Appu was arrested from Tamil Nadu Sunday morning. Vineeth Raj was nabbed from near Rajaji Nagar. A search has been launched for Sumesh, who was directly involved in the murder. There are indications that he will be arrested soon. Vineeth hit Akhil on his head with a stone. All the accused are suspect in the Anandhu murder case in 2019.

The police had earlier arrested some people, including those who participated in the conspiracy and those who helped the accused to stay in hiding. In this, Aneesh, a native of Karumam, was taken into custody by the Karamana police from Balaramapuram while he was trying to escape to Tamil Nadu.

The police said that the car in which the accused were traveling was driven by Aneesh. He is not directly involved in the murder. The silver colored Innova car they were traveling in has also been seized. This vehicle was rented from Vizhinjam. Aneesh is being questioned more. His arrest will be recorded today. The initial report is that there were four including Aneesh in the vehicle. The police also suspect that the accused may have left the state.

The investigation team has found that they had planned to kill Akhil after appearing in the court in the Anandu murder case last Friday. The accused who returned from the court, reached Karamana and were planning to attack another member of Akhil's group. However, they saw Akhil first.

The police have received hints that the other accused in the Anandhu murder case were also involved in the conspiracy. Many of them have been taken into custody and are being interrogated. The police said the accused came after taking drugs to attack them. The police suspect that more people are involved in the murder. They are also examiner whether there were more people in the car. The police got the pictures of three people from the CCTV footage of the place where the murder took place.

The killing was in revenge for a clash that broke out at a bar in Pappanamcode on the day of the Lok Sabha polls. Three of the accused in the Ananthu murder case were injured in the attack. The police said eight people including Akhil beat them. The incident happened around 5:30 pm on Friday. Akhil, who tried to run away after seeing the accused, was brutally beaten to death with sticks, stones and iron rods. Akhil was taken to the medical college hospital but died around 8.15 pm.
