KANNUR: A bomb exploded on the roadside at Chakkarakkal in Kannur Monday morning at around 4 am. Two ice-cream bombs exploded. The blast happened when the police were patrolling.

There was political tension in the area the other day. The problems were related to the tying of festoons. The police patrolling was intensified following this. In the meanwhile, the bomb exploded. The police have started an investigation into the incident.

The death of a man while making bombs at Panoor in Kannur on April 5 had sparked a controversy. As the Lok Sabha elections were about to be held, it had led to political discussions. In the incident, many people, including DYFI workers, were detained by the police.

CPM worker Sheril was killed in the bomb blast. Another CPM activist Vineesh of Valiyaparambu was seriously injured. 13 CPM workers including three DYFI unit office bearers were arrested in the case. There are a total of 15 accused in the case, including Sheril. CPM state secretary M V Govindan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan came forward saying that they have no links with the party.

CPM has no dealings like making bombs. CPM's activity is to mobilize the people. If DYFI is involved, appropriate action will be taken. We do not have a feeder organization. Should not ask the things related to DYFI to CPM, said Govindan.
