‘Demanded 150 sovereigns and a car, assaulted after using drugs; newlywed of Pantheerankavu opens up

bride

KOCHI: The newlywed bride in Pantheerankavu said her husband assaulted her brutally in the name of dowry. She blamed the police for not taking adequate steps even after a complaint was filed against her husband Rahul. While talking to the media, she said Rahul tightened a cable charger around her neck and tried to kill her. He also beat her with a belt. Still, the police tried to settle the case and therefore will file a complaint with the chief minister, she said.

‘Rahul and his mother held talks on the morning she was assaulted. Rahul did not tell me what they talked. He had used drugs then and then a fight broke out in the name of dowry that night. Rahul said that he deserves a car and gold of 150 sovereigns. He first slapped me. He punched me on both sides of my head. He took the cable of the mobile charger and tightened it around my neck and tried to kill me.

He then dragged me on to the bed and beat me with the belt. Blood started oozing from my ears and nose. I soon fell unconscious. Nobody came to help me even after crying. Rahul’s friend Rajesh was in the other room. He also did not come. However, Rajesh was in the hospital when they took me there. They told doctors that I fell in the house.

I haven't used my phone after marriage. It was in Rahul's hands. When my relatives came home after marriage, they saw my condition. I first told them that I fell in the bathroom. Rahul had threatened to say so. Seeing the marks on my neck, the family became suspicious and when they asked me again, I told them about the harassment. They immediately took me home. Filed a police complaint but the police tried to compromise. The police failed to mention about Rahul tightening my neck with the mobile charger, in the FIR. All the policemen are on Rahul's side. Therefore, has decided to file a complaint with the chief minister', she said.

The woman from Paravur and Rahul P Gopal (29) of Kozhikode Pantheerankavu got married on May 5. Their marriage was held in Guruvayur. He harassed her for more dowry on May 11.
