KOZHIKODE: The bank account of Rahul P Gopal, the accused in the case of attacking his newly wedded wife in Pantheerankavu, has been frozen. Reports said that there is a move to freeze his account abroad. The police have intensified search for Rahul, who is absconding. Interpol has issued a blue corner notice to trace him.
Rahul was at home on the day the Pantheerankavu police registered a domestic violence case. He went into hiding after realizing that a murder attempt case will be filed against him. Rahul's phone was on in Karnataka but was later found to be switched off. The police suspect that he has fled to Singapore from here. They are also investigating whether he has a job in Germany.
There are reports that his mother Usha will be taken into custody and questioned. The investigation team led by Feroke ACP Saju P Abraham reached the house of the complainant in North Paravoor and took her statement. She told police that Rahul forced her to drink alcohol in the presence of his mother and friend. So, his mother Usha will be interrogated.
Moreover, Usha had earlier confirmed that Rahul was earlier married to a Kottayam native. She first said that the marriage was only fixed. She is now saying that the marriage was registered before tying the knot in order to take her to Germany soon after marriage, but the girl withdrew from it a month before the marriage. A clarification is needed in it.
The wedding of Rahul and the complainant was on May 5 in Guruvayur. She was assaulted on May 11. Rahul is from Kottayam. His family later shifted to Kozhikode.
