KOLKATA: Election Commission notice to Abhijit Gangopadhyay for making defamatory remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee. The commission has issued a show cause notice to former High Court judge and BJP candidate Abhijith.

The Election Commission's action comes after the Trinamool Congress filed a complaint against Gangopadhyay. The Trinamool Congress had alleged that his defamatory statements were a clear picture of his vulgar behaviour and misogynist attitude.

"Trinamool says Rekha Patra was bought for Rs 2,000. So, Mamata Banerjee, what is your price, Rs 10 lakh? Is that because you use Keya Seth make-up? Rekha Patra can be bought for Rs 2,000 because she works in households? How can a woman insult a woman so much?" Abhijit Gangopadhyay made the allegation against Mamata Banerjee while addressing a public meeting in Haldia, West Bengal on May 15.

In its complaint, the Trinamool Congress alleged that Gangopadhyay's vulgar and crude remarks were beyond the foundation of decency and morality and showed not only a lack of courtesy but also a blatant disregard for woman Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
