Man surrenders at police station after hacking his wife to death

KOLENCHERRY: A man surrendered at the police station after allegedly killing his wife in connection with a family quarrel. The deceased has been identified as Leela (64) of Venattu in Kolancherry's Thonnikka. Her husband Joseph (Venattu Joy, 71) surrendered at Puthankurish station.

The murder took place at 5 pm yesterday. Joseph arrived at the station around 7 pm. Joseph testified that the reason was that his wife and children tried to take his property. All three children have been abroad for years. The couple was also in Australia with their son. Joseph returned home three months ago. Leela arrived a week ago. According to Joseph, he hacked Leela on her neck using a sickle during an argument in the kitchen.

Puthankurish DySP Nishadmon said that the body was cut all over and was covered in blood in the kitchen. The police sealed the house and its surroundings. Today the top officials will arrive and take further action.

The locals came to know about the incident when the police arrived at the house.

The house is near the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway junction. As it was raining heavily in the evening, the locals were unaware of

the altercation and murder. Children: Smitha, Saritha, Eldhose (all three abroad). Nephews: Manoj Thomas, Manoj Nainan, Anu.
