KOCHI: The Kerala High Court acquitted KPCC chief K Sudhakaran in the case of trying to open fire at E P Jayarajan inside a moving train in Andhra Pradesh in 1995. The court allowed the plea to be excluded from the charge sheet related to the case. The order was that of Justice Ziyad Rahman. K Sudhakaran was accused of conspiracy.
The Valiyathura police filed the charge sheet in the conspiracy case. The court verdict came when the trial proceedings were about to start in Thiruvananthapuram. K Sudhakaran filed the plea in the court demanding that the trial be stopped and that he be excluded from the charge sheet and remove him from the list of the accused.
Sudhakaran raised the argument whether there is evidence to prove conspiracy in the charge sheet and whether the charge sheet itself will stand. He said that he was included in the list only on the basis of hearsay and some witness statements. Sudhakaran told the court that there was political animosity behind this and that he has no part in the conspiracy.
The incident related to the case happened on April 12 in 1995. E P Jayarajan was attacked in Andhra Pradesh when he was returning on a train from Chandigarh after the party congress. The incident happened around 10 in the morning. When he was washing his face in the wash basin of the train, the first accused Vikramchalil Sasi shot the fire. EP was shot in the neck. Apart from Sasi, Petta Dinesan, T P Rajeevan, Biju and K Sudhakaran were included in the list of the accused. The police charge sheet said that the accused hatched a conspiracy in Thiruvananthapuram and then entrusted Sasi and Dinesan to attack Jayarajan.
