THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that it will rain heavily in various districts of the state tonight. In addition to Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts, IMD has also issued a red alert in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts, which were currently under orange alert.
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts are on orange alert today. With this, it is certain that there will be rain in the coming hours in all districts except for Kannur and Kasaragod.

Red Alert
22-05-2024: IMD has declared red alert in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts. Chance of very heavy rain at isolated places is predicted. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall means more than 204.4 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.
Orange Alert
22-05-2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad.
23-05-2024: Central Meteorological Department has announced orange alert in the districts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad.

Heavy rains can create hazards
Heavy rainfall is expected in a short period of time. This can create flash floods. Waterlogging is also likely to occur in urban areas and low-lying areas in general. Continued rainfall may trigger landslides. Public and government agencies should exercise extreme caution.
