Heavy rain in central districts; two killed in lightning strikes in Thrissur

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two people died in Thrissur after being struck by lightning that accompanied heavy rains in the district. The deceased are Valapad native Nimisha (42) and Thalakkottukara native Ganesan (52).

Nimisha was struck by the lightning at around 11 am when she entered the bathroom outside the house to take a shower. Although she was immediately rushed to the hospital, her life could not be saved. The concrete of the bathroom cracked. The wiring in the house was completely burnt. A bulb also exploded. Nimisha is an employee of Kalpaka Textiles in Triprayar. Husband: Sudheer, children: Siddhaan and Sidan.

Ganesan was visiting his mother who was living near the Kurumal church in Velur. The lightning struck him while he was sitting at the house drinking tea. He was rushed to the Medical College by the locals. However, he died soon after. Ganesan is a painting worker. Wife: Usha, children: Arathi and Aaron.

Many houses and commercial establishments were flooded in Thrissur city during the rain. Traffic came to a standstill at Swaraj Round as the water level increased on the road. The functioning of the ICU of the Aswini Hospital was partially disrupted after water gushed into the hospital.
