VADAKARA: Shafi Parambil won the Kadathanad Angam, where a most fierce fight was witnessed. The most brilliant victory in this Lok Sabha election belongs to Shafi who came from Palakkad to Vadakara. Shafi defeated the most popular candidate in Kerala. The people of Vadakara are sending Shafi to Delhi with a majority of more than one lakh votes.

Losing Vadakara, once a stronghold of Ponnapuram Kota, even after fielding a strong candidate to survive any wave, has literally shocked the CPM. Sitting MP K Muraleedharan responded that since K K Shailaja became the candidate, no one demanded Vadakara. These were words that proved the popularity of Shailaja. From there, Shafi Parambil changed the scene of Vadakara.

The obscene video controversy and Kafir usage had increased the heat of the campaign in the constituency. Matters reached the point of filing a complaint with the election commission. Vadakara is also a constituency that saw a lot of fighting on social media. Consolidation of minority votes and UDF wave became factors in favor of Shafi Parambil. Along with this, the strong presence of the Muslim League also fueled the UDF movement.

A CPM worker was killed during bomb making in Panur and local leaders visiting the house of the slain worker during the election, was widely discussed. Along with that, the verdict of convicting the accused in the TP Chandrasekaran murder case also came before the elections. The role of CPM leaders in the T P murder case was discussed. With all these factors coming together and fielding a young candidate like Shafi Parambil, was the biggest victory of the Congress in Vadakara.

In 2009, K Muraleedharan defeated P Jayarajan for 84663 votes. Shafi has gone beyond that. CPM is sure to be annoyed by the majority which exceeded the candidate's estimate of winning by 50,000 votes. Vadakara is a constituency comprising Thalassery and Koothuparambu in Kannur. The CPM had estimated that even if the votes in other constituencies were reduced, it would overcome by leading in Thalassery and Koothuparam. However, even there Shafi's progress was seen.

Vadakara abandoned CPM since 2009. Shafi is repeating the success started by Mullapally Ramachandran by defeating the sitting MP Sathydevi. In 2014, when there was a close fight, Mullapally defeated A N Shamseer by a narrow margin of around 3,000 votes. In 2019, the Congress fielded K Muraleedharan, who was the sitting MLA of Vattiyoorkavu, to topple P Jayarajan.
