KASARGOD: Two more people, including the main accused, have been arrested in the case in which a fraud of Rs 4.76 crores was committed in the CPM-controlled Karadka Agriculturalist Welfare Society. The arrested persons are society secretary Karmamthody native K Ratheeshan, his real estate partner and Kannur native Manjakkandi Jabbar. They were nabbed from Namakkal in Tamil Nadu.
Kasaragod district police chief P. Bijoy had appointed a new team led by Bekal DySP Jayan Dominic to arrest Ratheeshan. The new team comprised 6 police officers, including Adhur Inspector Sanjay Kumar.
On May 13, the Adhur police received a complaint from the president of the Karadka Agriculturalist Welfare Society regarding fraud in the society. The irregularities were found in the inspection earlier carried out by the Cooperation Department. Following this, the secretary was asked to repay the amount. The complaint was lodged with the police only after secretary Ratheeshan went into hiding.
