THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A security employee of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College has been suspended for physically assaulting a patient on the hospital premises. The action was taken against security employee Juraij. Mannammoola native Sreekumar was beaten up by Juraij on the Medical College premises last month.

The incident took place on May 16. A video of Sreekumar, a patient with epilepsy, being beaten up in the security officer's room had come out the other day. Sreekumar had come to the Medical College after seeking treatment at the Peroorkada Hospital.

It is also alleged that a senior officer of the Medical College was also beaten up by the security employee yesterday. According to reports, the security employee attacked the senior officer following a dispute over the circulation of the video which showed him beating up the patient. The incident took place in front of the security officer at 3 pm yesterday. The officer, who sustained an injury in the abdomen, has sought treatment at the hospital.

It was the discussion that took place in the WhatsApp group of security officials that led to the dispute between the security employee and the senior officer. The senior officer said that the security employee attacked him after he warned him not to use indecent language in the WhatsApp group. He said that he would file a complaint with the principal of the Medical College and the police.
