Goa to introduce major changes in tourism sector due to tourist misconduct

goa

PANAJI: Goa is a favorite tourist destination in India for both foreigners and locals, attracting thousands of visitors each year. However, Goa is gearing up for significant changes starting next season due to the lack of decorum among some tourists at the beaches. Moving forward, those wishing to enter Calangute Beach in North Goa will have to pay an entry fee. The local government is planning to implement this charge to better manage the area and maintain order.

Entry fee is waived for those with proof of room booking in any of the hotels in Goa. The action was taken after complaints were noticed that tourists coming from different places leave waste including plastic on the beaches and return. There is also a complaint that the bad things such as littering on such beaches, which are kept very clean and tidy, are spoiling the beauty of the beach.

The Panchayat Samiti, the local administration, is preparing to pass a resolution regarding the collection of entry fee and submit it to the state government. The village sarpanch himself has informed the media that the resolution will be passed. It is widely noticed that tourists who come in large groups in large vehicles pollute the beach and return. Sarpanch Joseph Zakaria says that the decision is also to reduce the hardship caused to local residents due to the arrival of more tourists.

Officials have clarified that they are trying to bring changes from the beginning of the season in October. Strong action will be taken against illegal trade on the beaches. All of them will be arrested and transferred with the help of the police. 80 percent of guest houses in Goa are rented out to outsiders. The authorities also asked the people to avoid this. Joseph Zakaria also stated that strong action will be taken against illegal spas.
