Car catches fire on national highway; one person dead; suicide suspected

KOLLAM: One person died after a car caught fire on the national highway in Chathannoor, Kollam. The accident occurred on the national highway under construction at Chathannoor Karamcode Kurisummoodu. The incident happened at 6:42 pm on Sunday. The preliminary conclusion is suicide. It has not been confirmed who died.

The car coming from the Chathannoor area caught fire after stopping near a hospital. The occupants of a nearby workshop rushed to the spot but could not open the car door as the fire broke out. Chathannoor police reached the spot immediately after learning about the incident. As the fire got out of control, it was possible to douse it only after the arrival of the fire brigade from Paravur. By then, the man in the driving seat was dead. The police informed that the body was completely burnt and the identity of the deceased can be confirmed only after the forensic examination. It has been identified as the car owned by a resident of Kalluvathukkal, Kollam.
