ALAPPUZHA: A M Ariff, the LDF candidate for Alappuzha in the recently concluded LS polls, admitted to losing votes from the backward classes in the constituencies, which resulted in the loss. Ariff the former MP from the communist bastion of Alappuzha made the opinion while giving an interview to a private channel. He also admitted to not even receiving Muslim votes from the district.

On the day of election result, Ariff posted on Facebook a poem he wrote almost nine years back. He felt the writings had contemporary relevance. The poem criticized the idea put forward 9 years ago by BDJS.“Nair to Naiyadi is a reunion that never happens”; the poem had this context.

Ariff distanced away from commenting on the criticism raised by Vellapally Natesan who alleged CPM of doing minority appeasement. The former MP also remained blasé on the statements raised by CPM leader G. Sudhakaran. Ariff said it was party that should respond to the ‘opinions’ raised by its leaders.

Ariff said he would get back to practising as a lawyer and would also continue work for CPM in Alappuzha.
