Actor Ramesh Pisharody to contest by-poll in Palakkad?

PALAKKAD: Palakkad and Chelakkara assembly constituencies are preparing for by-elections after Shafi Parambil and K Radhakrishnan tasted success in the LS poll of 2024. All eyes were fixed on K Muraleedharan to contest from Palakkad but the leader has curtly backed out after informing the party leadership. Muraleedharan is eyeing for an assembly seat from Vattiyoorkavu in Thiruvananthapuram and is not ready to contest elections in haste. With Muraleedharan's decision, some idle talks brought to the forefront the name of cine actor and congress supporter Ramesh Pisharody. And now, the actor has responded accordingly.

Ramesh Pisharody dismissed the news saying he is currently not into electoral politics but assured that he will be active in campaigning works for Congress in Palakkad and Chelakkara. As per insider reports, BJP will nominate a woman leader in the by-election in the Palakkad assembly constituency. It is reported that the leadership will zero in on the saffron party’s firebrand face Sobha Surendran.

It will be the central leadership who will take the final call on the issue. It is reported that C Krishnakumar's name is also under consideration. Shobha is one of the few leaders in BJP with a knack for increasing vote percentage wherever she contests. In Alappuzha, known as a communist bastion, Shobha increased the vote share of BJP from 17.24 to 28.3 per cent. Shobha secured 2,99,648 votes in Alappuzha.
