'RSS making inroads in Ezhava community; CPM failed its targets', says CPM state secretary M V Govindan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM State Secretary MV Govindan on Thursday admitted the party’s failure to adapt to the mood of the people, which he said invariably reflected in the LS poll results.

M V Govindan:

“The DA and welfare pensions frozen due to the central stance ruined Kerala economically and this was reflected in the election. The general thought that the Left Front not going to make an impact nationally also turned out to be a setback for LDF in Kerala. Apart from this, there was also an unholy nexus of Jamaat-e-Islami and SDPI with UDF which helped them go ahead in terms of vote percentage.

A section of the SNDP, formed on the ideas of Sree Narayanaguru, favoured the Sangh Parivar. With the formation of BDJS, the BJP systematically made inroads into the Ezhava community. People within the left party should take Vellapally Natesan’s criticism of the ‘Left party favouring minorities’ very seriously.

With the formation of BDJS under the leadership of Tushar Vellappally, RSS is making inroads into the Ezhava community. Vellapally’s son and wife are now actively working according to the principles of RSS. A section of Christians took a favourable stand for the BJP due to various reasons including fear of attack on a religious basis. In some areas of Kerala, even revered bishops attended Sangh Parivar events.

The most significant loss of Congress votes in Thrissur is from the Christian section. The continuous attack and media persecution of CM Pinarayi Vijayan also tainted the image of the Left party during the elections. The party will revive back to full strength, mostly to restrict the burgeoning saffron influence in Kerala. “
