Posted note on WhatsApp group criticising Bakrid; CPM leader expelled from party

KOZHIKODE: A CPM leader was expelled from the party for posting a note on social media in such a way as to incite religious rivalry. Puthuppady Local Secretary PK Shaijal was expelled from the party for posting a note criticising Bakrid in a WhatsApp group.

Shaijal posted the controversial note in a WhatsApp group that included political party representatives and panchayat members in Puthuppady, Kozhikode. He posted the note inciting religious rivalry in reply to the Bakrid wish extended by a member of the Puthuppady Gram Panchayat member.

The Muslim League has lodged a complaint against Shaijal with the Thamarassery police. In its complaint, the League alleged that Shaijal's remark incited religious rivalry. Many religious organizations also strongly criticized Shaijal's statement. Meanwhile, Shaijal expressed regret after his statement became controversial.
