MUMBAI: Candidate who lost in the Lok Sabha elections deposits Rs 18.90 lakh to verify voting machines. The incident took place in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. BJP candidate Sujay Vikhe Patil is the one who deposited Rs 18.90 lakh to verify the voting machines. Sujay Patil had lost to NCP's Nilesh Lanke by 28,929 votes. He submitted an application asking to verify the microcontroller of 40 EVMs after the loss.

Sujay Vikhe Patil has demanded that 10 EVMs each in Parner and Shrigonda assembly constituencies and five EVMs each in Shevgaon, Rahuri, Ahmednagar City, and Karjat Jamkhed assembly constituencies should be verified. Sujay clarified that such a decision was taken after hearing the opinion of the party workers and after a comprehensive analysis.

According to an order issued by the Supreme Court on April 26, the second and third-placed candidates will only need to pay a fixed fee to the Election Commission to verify the embedded microcontroller chips in five percent of the EVMs in an assembly constituency. Sujay Vikhe Patil filed an application according to this provision. The rate fixed by the Election Commission for the verification is Rs 40,000 per voting machine plus 18% GST. Meanwhile, Nilesh Lanke responded that Sujay's allegations were baseless. He also asked Sujay to accept defeat.
