Leakage of party votes fuelled LDF's heavy setback in LS polls: CPM state secretariat

cpm

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the CPM state secretariat meeting which started yesterday, it was assessed that the leakage of party votes has fueled the heavy setback faced for the LDF in the Lok Sabha elections. The election results of all the 140 assembly constituencies will be checked on a constituency-wise basis. Appointment of a commission of inquiry will also be considered to look into the massive defeat even in the Left strongholds.

The five-day state leadership meetings of the party began yesterday at the AKG Centre in the backdrop of top CPM leaders alleging anti-incumbency sentiment as the cause of the heavy backlash. Yesterday, the figures from the ward level submitted by the party district committees regarding the defeat were evaluated. The review and discussion will continue today.

Based on its findings, the remedies for the lapses and suggestions for rectification will be presented in the three-day state committee meeting starting on Wednesday. Open discussions on the backlash are likely to take place in state leadership meetings attended by CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, PB member Prakash Karat and central committee members from the state. The discussions will also include the criticism of the party relatives and sympathizers on the heavy defeat.

The BJP's rise in the state and its alarming increase in vote share, the circumstances that alienated some communities, which were the party's regular vote bank, will also be inspected. It is indicated that the government was asked to take measures to bring common people closer to the party by streamlining the distribution of social welfare pensions. The party's central committee meeting will discuss the analysis report of the state leadership meeting starting on June 26.
