Plus One: Temporary additional batches to be allowed in Malappuram

kk

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has decided to allow temporary batches in the Malappuram district where even students who secured high marks in SSLC could not get admission to Plus One. Priority will be given to government schools. A two-member committee has been appointed to submit a report on how the batch allocation should be done.

The members of the committee are Joint Director of Education (Academic) Malappuram RDD. Speaking to the media after the discussion with the student organisations, Education Minister V Sivankutty said that the committee will submit the report by July 5 and action will be taken based on this report.

There is a shortage of 7478 seats in Malappuram. Admission will be closed by July 31. Students who will miss the classes will be given alternate bridge courses. Students can apply for supplementary allotment on July 2,3 and 4. The admission will take place on July 8 and 9. The minister further stated that organizations' demands for taluk-based allotments will be addressed following consultation with experts.

There is a shortage of 252 and 1,757 seats in Kasaragod and Palakkad, respectively. The minister said that the shortage in these districts will be rectified in the supplementary allotment stage.

Muslim League rejects Commission
Meanwhile, the Muslim League has criticised the state government's action of appointing a commission to study the Plus One seat crisis in Malappuram. The League Malappuram District Committee said that the state government's action of appointing a new two-member commission to study the Plus One-seat crisis in Malappuram was an unnecessary step. The League also alleged that this action was an insult to the district.

According to the District Committee of the Muslim League, there is no point in appointing inquiry commissions by including officials who have been submitting misleading figures to the government. It also demanded that the recommendations submitted by the earlier-appointed Karthikeyan Committee should be implemented.
