The opposition raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly about the minimum number of children in govt schools in the state. Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan pointed out that the number of students enrolled in the first standard in government and aided schools has decreased by 7163 students compared to previous years. At least 6929 of these children are in government schools. Only 235 children are in aided schools. Usually after studying class 10th in CBSE, a large number of students switch to State Syllabus. The opposition leader said that this year it has also decreased.

Minister V Shivankutty replied that there has not been a huge decrease. There has been a decrease in the number of children enrolled in the first standard. As of the sixth working day of the academic year 2024-25, there are 36,43,607 students studying in classes one to ten in government, aided and unaided schools. A total of 2,48,848 students were admitted in the first standard. There are 781 children more than last year, including in the unaided sector. There has been an increase in the number of children in classes 8, 9 and 10 in government schools.

Meanwhile, there has been a decline in the SC and ST sector. Actions will be taken immediately to solve the problems including vehicle facilities and lack of teachers. The minister also explained that steps have been taken to increase the allocation of funds for mid day meal.
