Reason for loud explosion like sound heard in Kozhikode found after search

KOZHIKODE: Finally, the reason for the loud explosion like sound heard in Kallanode Illipilai has been found. The reason for the loud sound was the fall of a huge boulder. What scared the people the most was that the sound of the explosion occurred in the area where the earth had cracked during the 2018 floods. The loud sound was heard last night at 10:30 pm. With that, many people lost their sleep. In a search conducted on the hilltop, the reason behind the sound became clear. A huge boulder was found lying down on the start of the Manicheri-Poothottuthazhe stream.

The soil and mud of the place was washed away for about 50 meters due to the fall of the huge boulder. It is also suspected whether this is due to the landslide on the hilltop. This will be clarified only after further tests. The panchayat authorities are still examining the area. They are also trying to find out whether a landslide broke out.

The sound was heard in Kallanode and Poovathumchola region as well. Following the threat of landslides in heavy rains, the residents were evacuated last night.

It has been raining heavily for the past few days but today the rain has eased so there is little concern. Local residents are also worried that if it rains heavily again, big boulders are likely to fall again.
