BJP took away traditional communist votes in Kerala, admits MV Govindan

KOZHIKODE: CPM State Secretary MV Govindan admitted that the traditional CPM votes in Kerala went to the BJP camp in the LS polls 2024. While inaugurating the KSKTU Kozhikode District Conference, Govindan demanded the real reason for the vote split be investigated.

While the UDF rode on the minority communalism plank, the BJP used caste politics and pictured themselves as protectors of temples. Communal movements like Jamaat-e-Islami and SDPI are behind the victory of more than 100,000 constituencies in Malabar. It is to be noted that the congress lost 2.8% vote in this region. The minority section might have thought it would be better to stick with Congress, considering the national politics. A share of the Christian votes also went in favour of the BJP for several reasons. Even the SNDP organization propagated hardcore Hindu nationalism aiding the BJP to garner more votes.

The discontent among the working class should be solved. Only then the left can bounce back to power. The government should prioritize and ensure that all benefits are provided to the poor. Some are unhappy that relief measures for the 20% weaker sections have not been completed due to the Centre's financial sanctions. The welfare pension arrears also need to be cleared. The capitalist tendencies are slowly seeping inside the party and it needs to be kept at bay.
