KOCHI: In 2011, the Kochi City Police was tormented by the murder case of Andhra sex worker Swapna. The incomplete address "Biju, Cheruvil Puthanveedu. Thiruvananthapuram' and the information that the accused has a crossed eye. The accused, who was caught by police after following these two clues, was released on bail after 90 days but went absconding after being assured of punishment. When this case was released as a suspense thriller web series called 'Kerala Crime Files', civil police officer Mahesh of Ernakulam North Police was after the absconding accused Biju.
Mahesh's search for the accused, who has been absconding for seven years, led to the arrest of Biju from Udaya Colony in Ernakulam.
The case of Biju's disappearance reached Mahesh in early 2023. After studying the case investigation file, Mahesh first inquired whether Biju was contacting his family. That did not yield any results as Biju's family was also not very interested in him. As Biju was a cook, Mahesh handed over the address to all the hoteliers in Kerala, but their non-cooperation blocked the course of the investigation.

Police confirmed that Biju, who was an alcoholic, would visit a bar and informed the security guards of bars all over Kerala, but to no avail. This is when the police came to know through the local postman that Biju's Aadhaar card has been issued. The Aadhaar authority was contacted but the officials refused to provide any information. When the address was re-verified through Cybercell last month as usual, it was understood that a person named ''Biju Bhandari' had purchased a SIM.
It was confirmed that Biju was in Ernakulam when it was found that calls from this SIM were received by several people in the vicinity of Ernakulam KSRTC stand. In further investigation, Biju was arrested from a rented house.
Wishes are pouring in for Mahesh who found the accused. Mahesh, a native of Palluruthi, joined the police force in 2010.
Biju was sure that he would never be caught. He told the police that he had watched the web series released in his case and that it was good.
