THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is likely to lash the state today. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kozhikode in the next three hours.
The IMD has announced yellow alert in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod today. A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Thunderstorms will continue till Monday. Yellow alert has been sounded in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow and the day after. Rain warning has also been issued in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Monday.
The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of Kallakadal phenomenon and high waves along Kerala coast and Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should exercise special caution.
As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Keep fishing vessels safely moored in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured. Trips to the beach and recreation at sea should be avoided completely.
