KOZHIKODE: There are widespread damages in the rains that battered Kozhikode and Wayanad where a yellow alert has been issued. The Indian Meteorological department (IMD) has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour in both the districts in the next few hours.
There was widespread damage in the Kozhikode hilly region. The water level in the rivers is rising. Water has entered Kodanchery Chembukadavu bridge. Water has entered houses in Adivaram Kaithapoyil. Adivasi families in Chembukadavu area are in danger.
Landslides and flash floods occurred in Wayanad Meppadi Mundakayyil. Some families living in Puthumala Kashmir Island in Wayanad have been shifted to camps. An orange alert has been declared in the region as the water level has risen to 772.50 meters in the Banasura Sagar dam. A red alert will be issued if the water level rises by 15 cm. A holiday has been announced for three schools in Wayanad district due to the continuous heavy rains. Holidays have been declared for Vellarmala Vocational Higher Secondary School, Puthumala UP School and Mundakkai UP School.
A cyclone is prevailing over North Chhattisgarh. A low-pressure area is also located from north Kerala coast to south Gujarat coast. As a result of this, the Meteorological Department warned that there is a possibility of widespread rain with thunder and lightning in Kerala for the next five days. Yellow alert has also been announced in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod today.
