PATHANAMTHITTA: Saran Chandran, a native of Malayalapuzha who was accused in several criminal cases including KAAPA, joined the CPM after his remand. The district leadership justified Sharan Chandran, who was a Yuva Morcha office bearer, joining the CPM.

KAAPA was charged against Saran Chandran last year. Saran Chandran was released with a warning under Kappa 15(3) without asking him to shift location. He became an accused in a criminal case at Pathanamthitta station later. With that, the Malayalapuzha police arrested him for violating KAAPA, but the court granted him bail. The Pathanamthitta police arrested him and remanded him outside the court.

On Friday, 60 people including Saran Chandran joined the CPM in a conference attended by Minister Veena George. After this incident came to the news, the CPM issued a statement of justification.

CPM district secretary KP Udayabhanu issued a statement saying that false propaganda is being spread about those who joined the party from Kumbazha and Malayalapuzha. Saran was the Yuva Morcha office bearer of four panchayats. Only political cases were filed against him. The statement also says that Saran Chandran will take legal action against the false propaganda.

"A group of youth joined the progressive movement saying goodbye to communal politics. It is false news that KAAPA was charged against one of them. One cannot stay in the same district if KAAPA is imposed."
