Search for Arjun is a challenge, says D K Shivakumar; family to protest in Shirur

BENGALURU: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said there is a crisis in the search for Arjun of Kozhikode, who went missing in the landslide in Shirur. The strong currents continuing in the Gangavali river is a challenge, clarified Shivakumar.

‘All possible efforts were conducted. The present challenge is the strong currents continuing in the Gangavali River. However, the mission will not end, search will continue,’ said Shivakumar.

The district administration is checking the currents of Gangavali river every day. The flow of water is 5.4 nautical miles. It is not possible to check the river in this flow. In case it decreases, a decision will be taken tomorrow to resume the search.

The currents of the river must slow down to two knots for one person to safely descend and search. The weather is predicted to be favorable in the coming days. It is also reassuring that there has been no rain in the Gangavali River catchment area for two days. The district collector had informed that further action will be taken if the flow of the river decreases on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the family came forward against the delay in the search for Arjun. Jithin, relative of Arjun, alleged that there has been a lapse from the district administration. The search should resume within two days. Jithin said that if the search is not started, he will go to Shirur with his family to protest.
