NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. "Terrorism is breathing its last in Kashmir," the Prime Minister said at an election rally in Doda district. This is Modi's first rally in Kashmir, where the first phase of polling will be held on May 18.
"After independence, Jammu and Kashmir was targeted by foreign powers. After that, dynastic politics started hollowing this beautiful state. Political families have projected their children without nurturing a new leadership. However, since 2014, the BJP has been shaping youth leadership. BJP's determination and people's support will make Kashmir a peaceful, secure and prosperous region," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Hitting out at opposition parties and Rahul Gandhi, Modi alleged that those running nafrat ki dukan (shops of hatred) are hiding behind hoardings saying mohabbat ki dukan (shop of love). "Congress, PDP and National Conference want to restore Article 370. The three families will again snatch away the reservation of Pahadis. If they come, the schools will be burned again. Children will have stones in their hands, there will be struggles. The opposition is pretending to love the Constitution to cover up the wrong deeds. In Kashmir, reservation was denied to Pahadi, SC-ST and OBC communities," Modi criticized.
Free treatment up to Rs 7 lakh
The Prime Minister said that the Union Government is connecting remote parts of Kashmir by rail. "Free treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh has been provided to each family. Free treatment of up to Rs 7 lakh will be provided to poor families and Rs 18,000 per year will be made available in the bank account of senior woman member. The Pradhan Mantri Samman Nidhi for farmers will be increased to Rs 10,000," he added.
