AMMA General Secretary on Hema Committee report: ‘No clear stance yet, further study needed’

KOCHI: AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) General Secretary and actor Siddique has stated that he currently does not have a clear response to the release of the Hema Committee report. The AMMA leadership is presently focused on their ongoing program in Ernakulam, Siddique told the media, emphasizing that this event is their priority at the moment.

Siddique indicated that a thorough review of the report is necessary before any official response can be made. He mentioned that other organizations would also need to be consulted. "It’s crucial to understand the details of the report before commenting, as this is a very sensitive issue," Siddique explained. "A hasty statement without full knowledge could lead to negative consequences in the future. We will address the media after carefully studying the report."

The Justice Hema Committee report, commissioned by the state government to investigate the challenges faced by women in the film industry, was released at 2:30 PM. The report spans 233 pages and while the findings have been made public, personal information has been excluded to protect privacy.

Recently, the High Court ruled that the report could be released in part, supporting the Right to Information Commission's decision to provide a copy to applicants, excluding sections that might infringe on the privacy of individuals who provided statements.

The Justice Hema Committee was formed following the high-profile attack on an actress in Kochi. The committee submitted its findings directly to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on December 31, 2019.
