Mass resignation in AMMA; all office bearers including Mohanlal resign, executive committee dissolved

KOCHI: A mass resignation in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) soon after sexual allegations were raised soon after the Hema Committee report was released. All office-bearers including its president Mohanlal have resigned. AMMA’s executive committee has been dissolved. The decision was in the online meet convened here today. The ad-hoc committee will have the temporary charge.

Director Ranjith resigned his chairman post of film academy and actor Siddique from the general post of AMMA following the revelations soon after the release of the report.

Siddique resigned following the sexual allegation raised by actress Revathy Sampath. Ranjith stepped down after Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra raised sexual allegations. AMMA was going through a big crisis after sexual allegations were raised against actor Babu Raj.

The press conference held by Prithviraj the other day was an example of how even leading actors may take a stand against AMMA. If more actors take a stand against their association in the coming days, they may face more crisis. This may be the reason for the present mass resignation. With accusations being made against prominent actors daily, the rift within the association was severe.

The idea of 'women's leadership' suggested by actor Prithviraj in the press meet yesterday is also something that AMMA can follow. A female leadership at the helm of the association at this time may be more beneficial. Also, the concept of generational change put forward by Tovino Thomas can also benefit the association in these crisis times. The demand to bring young actors to the leadership is circulating in the social media as well.
