BENGALURU: Traffic congestion is nothing new in metro cities in India. Even smaller cities face suffocating traffic jams. Mumbai and Bengaluru top the list of worst-affected cities. However, recent reports suggest Bengaluru experiences more congestion than Mumbai, making it India's most congested city and one of the worst globally.
The congestion index scores cities between 800-1000 for severe traffic. Bengaluru tops the list, outscoring Mumbai's 787. Bengaluru is the only city to cross the 800-mark. Delhi ranks third with 747 points, followed by Hyderabad with 718 points. These findings were presented at the Mobility Symposium, hosted by Move In Sync, a provider of employee commute solutions.
Bengaluru's traffic congestion is infamous. Recently, a Google Maps screenshot went viral, suggesting walking is faster than driving during peak hours in the city. Meanwhile, authorities are claiming that the newly inaugurated double-decker flyover at Silk Board Junction, one of the city's busiest intersections, has significantly reduced traffic congestion.
