VITHURA: Heavy rains and thundershowers wrecked damage in the Vithura region of Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday evening. The low-lying areas witnessed waterlogging while a landslide occurred near Ganapati Para on the Vithura-Bonacaud route.
The landslide covered the road thus hindering travel for commuters and locals. The rains also choked the rod resulting in heavy traffic gridlock in the area. In the wake of the landslide, the panchayat decided to close the Bonacaud road. Vithura Panchayat President Manjusha Anand informed that the soil will be cleared on Thursday morning to restore travel on these roads.
Due to heavy rain, most of the junctions between the Ponmudi-Thiruvananthapuram state highway got waterlogged. Trees were uprooted while power disruption was also common in certain regions near Vithura. The heavy rains started on Wednesday at noon and continued for two hours. In some areas, the power is yet to be restored.
