SRINAGAR: A jawan was killed in action in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district. Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar was martyred. Three soldiers were injured. Subedar Rakesh Kumar was a junior commissioned officer. The encounter took place in the forested area of Kuntwara and Keshwan in Kishtwar. The Indian Army and the Rashtriya Rifles team arrived based on information about the presence of terrorists. The encounter started around 9 am during a search operation in the forest area between Dachigam and Nishat.
Two villagers from Kishtwar were abducted and killed by militants on November 8. They were members of the Village Defence Group (VDG). A section of the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group had claimed responsibility for the attack. The Kishtwar police had confirmed that these terrorists have been captured by the security forces.
This is the third encounter in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours. Earlier in the day, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Zabarwan forest area of Srinagar. One terrorist was killed in the encounter in Baramulla yesterday. Three terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Usman Lashkari, were killed on November 2, by security forces in two separate anti-militancy operations in Kashmir. Two policemen and two CRPF jawans were also injured in the encounter.
