BENGALURU: Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa, accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, has been granted bail. The actor was granted bail by the Karnataka High Court. Co-accused Pavithra Gowda was also granted bail. The High Court granted bail to the other five accused who had not been granted bail in the case earlier. The bail was granted by a bench headed by Justice Vishwajith Shetty.
Darshan, who has been granted interim bail for surgery, is now in the hospital. The lawyers had applied to the court to extend Darshan's bail period on the grounds that his blood pressure levels were varying. The court had already extended the bail period based on this. The High Court issued an order on the bail application following this.
The obscene text messages to Pavithra is what led to the murder. Police believe that Darshan and Pavithra planned and executed the murder. Renukaswamy's dead body was found in a drain in Kamakshipalayam months ago. The incident came to light when three persons surrendered to the police. They testified that they had committed the murder on the instructions of Darshan and the reason was a financial transaction.
During detailed interrogation, it was revealed that Darshan was involved in the murder. Darshan, who came to know about Renukaswamy's obscene messages to Pavithra, called him to the farmhouse, brutally beat him to death and left his body in the drain. Darshan and Pavitra were taken into custody based on the statement of the accused.
