THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The court sentenced Sharon Raj's girlfriend and murderer, Greeshma, to be hanged. The general public of Kerala describes this as a very happy verdict. The brutality shown by the woman Greeshma is the main reason to say that the court has decided what anyone with a conscience would have wanted.
Greeshma eliminated the young man who loved her more than his own life by giving him poison from which he could never escape. The murder was done after careful planning. The lady murderer managed to complete a task difficult for girls of the same age or even hardened criminals, without leaving her lover in any doubt.
The woman, who is only addressed with hatred on social media as 'Kashayam Greeshma", has become the youngest woman to be sentenced to death in India. Greeshma is one of the two women who are waiting to be executed in Kerala prisons. A total of 55 people have been sentenced to death and are in various jails in the state. Greeshma is the third woman to be sentenced to death in the state.
Greeshma of Sharon murder case has become the next woman to get the death penalty in Kerala after Rafeeqa Beevi (52). It is noteworthy that it was Neyyattinkara Additional District Judge AM Basheer who passed the sentence in these two cases. Rafeeqa Beevi, the accused in the Vizhinjam Shanthakumari murder case, was sentenced to death earlier. The judgment in the Shanthakumari case was in May 2024. Rafeeqa Beevi killed the elderly Shanthakumari to steal her gold ornaments.
The Neyyatinkara Sessions Court sentenced Greeshma to death by stating that the age of the accused could not be taken into account and it was an unprovoked murder. The court also accepted the prosecution's argument that Greeshma possessed a demonic mind. The court also said that the argument that Greeshma has no criminal background cannot be considered. Nirmalakumaran Nair, the second accused in the case and Greeshma's uncle, was sentenced to three years in prison. Sindhu, mother of Greeshma, the third accused, was acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence.
With today's death sentence in the Sharon case, 55 people are awaiting the noose. 25 people in Pujapura Central Jail alone. The death penalty was finally carried out 33 years ago. Ripper Chandran was hanged in Kannur Central Jail in 1991 for killing 14 people with a hammer. Azhakesan, a native of Kaliakkavilai, was the last person to be hanged in Poojapura in 1979. The case involved killing several toddlers for witchcraft.
