Free auto rickshaw rides in Kerala; Department of Motor Vehicles to issue order soon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Department of Motor Vehicles to crack down on auto rickshaw drivers who overcharge passengers. There are reports that MVD is planning to issue an order in the coming days that if auto rickshaw drivers run without a meter, the passengers will not have to pay for the journey.

The Motor Vehicle Department has decided to put posters on auto rickshaws saying that the passengers will not have to pay if auto rickshaw drivers run without putting the meter. The order may come out today or tomorrow. Meanwhile, it is not clear whether auto rickshaw workers or organizations will be ready to put up the posters.

Many auto rickshaw drivers drive without a meter. There are also people who get angry if passengers demand it. Then there are those who charge up to double the meter charge. Such widespread complaints are common. It is informed that the decision of the Motor Vehicle Department is based on all this.
