Chenthamara in Palakkad city? Police inaction draws flak

PALAKKAD: 125 police officers are rummaging the rural belt of Nenmara in search for murder accused Chenthamara. Locals have voluntarily joined police in the search operation. Ponds and other water bodies in the area are being thoroughly searched since the police doubt the chances of the accused committing suicide. A half-used poison bottle was recovered from Chenthamara’s house on Monday. The inspection is being conducted under the leadership of Alathur DySP.

Deep diving experts have reached Pothundy to search the water bodies in the region. Amidst the search operations, reports also emerged about some locals spotting Chenthamara in Palakkad town. No confirmation has been made in this regard.

After killing Sudhakaran's wife Sajitha in 2019, Chenthamara went into hiding akin to the present scenario. However, after a few days, he surrendered before officials unable to survive hunger. The police are expecting Chenthamara to come out of hiding similarly.

Sudhakaran (56), and his mother Lakshmi (78), natives of Pothundy Boyan colony were hacked to death with a machete by Chenthamara on Monday. At the same time, Sudhakaran's children Athulya and Akhila alleged police inaction in the case. They blamed the officials for taking the case lightly even after the family complained to them about the accused a few days back.

Meanwhile, an investigation was announced into the police inaction despite the family complaining about facing distress from the accused. It is alleged that there was a failure on the part of the police to inform the court that Chenthamara had violated the bail conditions. ADGP Manoj Abraham had ordered a report from Palakkad SP to be submitted before today evening.
