Saw film only on release day; Murali Gopi ‘mum’ on Empuraan row

KOCHI: Scriptwriter Murali Gopi has not responded to the controversies related to the film Empuraan. Although Mohanlal's social media post expressing regret was shared by Prithviraj and Antony Perumbavoor, Murali Gopi has not yet been ready to do so.

Murali Gopi is of the stand that he is not ready to comment on the controversy in connection with the film or in sharing Mohanlal's social media post. He has not responded to other matters either. Murali Gopi failed to respond despite allegations that Prithviraj had edited the script.

Murali Gopi attended only the Mumbai promotion of Empuraan. Some from the film industry said Murali Gopi saw the full film only on the release day. Murali Gopi was previously criticized by Left organizations for the film 'Left Right Left'. He was criticized for being a supporter of Sangh Parivar.

Mohanlal via a Facebook post expressed regret for the political controversies caused by the film. I came to know that the political and social themes that came into the making of the movie Empuraan, the second part of the Lucifer franchise, have caused great distress to some of my loved ones. As an artist, it is my duty to ensure that none of my movies promote hatred towards any political movement, ideology or religious sect.

Therefore, the team of Empuraan and I express regret for the distress caused to my loved ones. And with the realization that the responsibility for it lies with all of us who worked behind the movie, we have decided together to remove such issues. For the last four decades, I have lived my film life with one of you. Your love and trust are my only strength. I believe that there is no Mohanlal who is greater than that, said Mohanlal. Prithviraj also came forward supporting Mohanlal. Prithviraj expressed support by sharing Mohanlal's post.
