NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has ruled that the song 'Veera Raja Veera' from the movie Ponniyin Selvan - 2 constitutes a copyright infringement of the late Junior Dagar brothers' Shiva Stuthi. Rejecting the filmmakers' argument that the song was merely inspired by the Shiva Stuthi, the court ordered that Rs 2 crore be deposited as compensation to the Dagar brothers' family.
Additionally, the court directed that the Dagar brothers' names must now be credited in relation to the song across all OTT and online platforms where the movie is available.
The action came following a petition filed by singer Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar, who pointed out that while the lyrics were altered, the original rhythm of the Shiva Stuthi was directly used in the film song. The case was filed against the production company Madras Talkies and composer A.R. Rahman.
