THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Managements are protesting against the government's unilateral decision to invite applications for B.Sc. Nursing admissions before the announcement of the Plus Two exam results in Kerala. The government has announced that applications can be made through the LBS website starting today, with the results due on the 21st. The managements have alleged that there were no discussions regarding this. The managements have decided to take admissions on their own in all the seats in self-financing colleges in protest against the government's decision.

In the past, the government had held discussions with the managements before embarking on the admission process. This is when the LBS and the managements decide when to invite applications and complete them. This time, the managements sent a letter a month ago requesting a call for discussion, but no action was taken.

Allotment is made through LBS for all seats in government colleges and 50% government seats in self-financing colleges. However, the managements say that there is no agreement to give 50% seats to the government every year. Private Nursing College Management Association President V Saji, Secretary Ayira Sasi, and Christian Self-Financing Nursing College Management Association President Fr Vimal Francis alleged that the government is disrupting the smooth admission process.

Justification that it will not be difficult

• LBS says that it will not be difficult for students as they have time till June 7 to apply

• Managements say that it is a wrong practice to start the admission process before the state plus two results are announced

Reservation will be sabotaged

If the managements make admission on the basis of marks in all the seats in self-financing colleges, the reservation will be sabotaged. Currently, admission is made on the basis of reservation for merit seats

Colleges, Seats

• Total Nursing Colleges...............160

• Self-financing Colleges............................124

• Total Seats........................................9,883

• In self-financing colleges........................7,613
