THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A serious medical negligence has been noticed in the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology in Thiruvananthapuram. A complaint has been lodged against the hospital for injecting the wrong eye. The injection to be administered in the left eye was taken in the right eye. Assistant Professor S S Sujeesh has been suspended pending investigation.
A 51-year-old patient identified as Azhoor Beevi from Beemapally was subjected to serious medical negligence in the hospital. She had been seeking treatment from the hospital for the past one week. She had sought treatment for her left eye due to blurred vision. It was then discovered that she had swelling in her eyes. As part of this, Dr Sujeesh advised her to get an injection in her left eye before June 3. As per his advice, the patient and her relatives reached the hospital on Monday. Her left eye was cleaned and other things were done then.
Her son said that he had sent Rs 6,000 to a person through Google Pay as per the doctor's instructions as he could not get the necessary medicine. The medicine was delivered. When the injection was given, it was given to the right eye instead of the eye that was supposed to be treated. The doctor was suspended after the relatives filed a complaint with the superintendent and the director. The statements of the patient and relatives will be recorded as part of the investigation.
The patient's son said that no decision was taken in connection with the injection taken and that the hospital authorities asked them to come on June 12. The eye's condition is still continuing. Her son said the authorities told them that nothing will happen on her eye wrongly injected.
