ALAPPUZHA: A 55-year-old man committed suicide after writing the name of the shopkeeper who had beaten him up for asking for pen and paper to write a suicide note. The incident took place in Alappuzha. The deceased is Benny, a native of Thumboly. Benny committed suicide by consuming poisonous fruit. He died while undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital. He was a construction worker.

Benny was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition at 10 pm last night after consuming poisonous fruit. He was undergoing treatment on a ventilator. He died this morning. Benny had booked a room in a lodge near Pulayanvazhi Karuka Junction yesterday evening. Benny went to a nearby fruit shop and asked for a pen and paper, but the woman at the shop misunderstood. Thinking that he had gone to harass his wife, the woman's husband, Shukoor, assaulted Benny.

Benny, who reached the room afterwards, wrote with a sketch pen on a towel that the reason for his suicide was a man named Thampi. He also wrote on the floor of the room that Shukoor had assaulted him. Shukoor was later taken into custody by the South Police.
