Shawarma turns villain again, 14 children hospitalized

KASARGOD: 14 children have been hospitalized for food poisoning. The incident happened at Poochakkadu in Kasaragod. People who ate shawarma from a hotel after nabidina celebrations suffered food poisoning.

The mosque committee had arranged food as part of the Prophet's Day celebrations. However, when there was shortage, bought 15 shawarmas from a nearby hotel. People who ate this contracted food poisoning. 14 people sought treatment in the hospital. Four of them were admitted. Ten are under observation. All 13 are girls. The members of the committee said the hotel management admitted that old meat was used for the shawarma. Officials from the Food Safety Department clarified that no official confirmation could be made in this regard and that samples have been sent for testing.
